Jebel Ali is a medium large port, home to most of Dubai's "Free Zones."

John's ship (well, not his ship, unless Maersk decides he can keep it) has been here weekly in November.

These Imperial Walkers absurdly large cranes are used to load and unload containers.

Like this.

The sleeping quarters of 3rd Officer John are larger than pictured.

Here's a different sort of vessel. "Jamila" was the site of our booze cruise with the Swede.

The Taj Palace Hotel catered the buffet and open bar on this two-hour tour of Dubai Creek.

Like two gaudy, alcohol-soaked festival boats passing in the night...

Actually, we passed a lot of gaudy, alcohol-soaked festival boats. Swede reflected at left.

Contrast the loading docks of Dubai Creek with the top photo of containers at Jebel Ali.

Here's a close-up of the notice, photographed by Don. He says, "It sounds like the future."

Thanks, I'm glad you like them! I post mostly pictures, and I know a lot of people don't care to have so many photos slowing down their friends lists...

I'm in the United Arab Emirates, which is on the tip of the Arabian peninsula, between the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean. We moved here so I could work for Emirates Airline. It's a lovely place!

Oh, wow!
That's really cool, man.
I'm totally envious because I love traveling.

No need to be envious... just wait a couple years, and I'm sure you'll be able to roam (if you want to) all around the world.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ your picture posts!
Gah, it makes me homesick for a place that isn't yet home, if that makes sense.
I keep getting myself all excited about my imminent move to Dubai. I just...squee! Can't wait! It's so booming and gorgeous and just wonderful all around, from what I can see thus far.

It does make sense! I always felt that same longing, reading about Dubai and waiting for the day when I would be invited to live here. Just so you're aware (which you probably are), the city likes to hype itself up a great deal, so a lot of things people expect aren't exactly finished yet. On the other hand, I think the city is cooler in real life than in pictures.

No place is perfect, of course, but there are enough sites that delve into Dubai's weak spots. I'm not at all interested in doing that. Besides, this is my blog and my life and I want to paint a pretty picture, dadblammit!

Heehee =) If you focus on the backdrop of that picture, and see the multitudes of cranes behind the subject, you'll surely see the analogy.

You went to Singapore!

First flight, yay! And from Singapore to Sydney - can't do better than that. My first flight was a turn to Saudi. I'd be happy to fly to Sydney every day! Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing the details from her...
