It makes sense in the right context.

I thought I'd include some popular brands with Arabic writing.

Can you identify this brand?

Here's another hint. They were giving it away at the Rugby 7s.

Here's one from Japan. "Please don't park your bicycle here."

Re: i'm pretty sure the blue and white one is...

I only got it because I could read the Arabic! I've even drunk the stuff (pretty nice, despite the name) but I couldn't for the life of me pick the logo out of a line up.

Re: i'm pretty sure the blue and white one is...

It is nice! I used to blindly taste-test sports drinks to find the best one, and Pocari wins hands down.

A lot of my LJ friends added me during our Japan days, so I thought they might be amused to see that Pocari Sweat exists in the Arabic world, as well. =)

You're right... some things just don't quite transcribe.

Re: i'm pretty sure the blue and white one is...

Interestingly enough, there are two letters (P and V) that are sometimes borrowed from Persian for the purpose of transcribing foreign words. "Snapple" uses the P, frinstance, and "Seven Up" uses both, but "Pepsi" transliterates to "Bibzee" instead.

I always got a laugh at the "saloons" around town. I'd get the giggles when I'd see those signs.

We used to get Pocari Sweat in Seattle at the convenience store all the time. Quenchingness.

Neat pictures!

The subway logo looks way better in Arabic.

Yeah, guessed the Pocari Sweat, and why is the Registered mark for Dunkin Donuts placed on the left in the Arabic version? Neat.
