Halloweird, Part Second, and Mahmovies! [Nov. 20th, 2009|11:07 am]

By parental demand... Halloweird, Part The Second. Only 20 days after Halloween, and worth the wait, I'm sure.

So this was the first party we went to ~ a house party with a "space" theme. There were all kinds of weird lighting effects which were bleached out of this picture by flash photography.

It was almost like being in another country. Or a Star Trek episode.

Two birthdays; two cakes with 30 candles each.

Then we went to Chi, where we had to wait the usual eternity even though there was a table reserved for us. These were some of these creatures waiting in line.

The view from our table in the garden. Chi was packed, as usual.

Another nightclub shot.

And for those of you who did NOT spot the "attention to detail" in my previous post, Don and I swapped eye colors to be Kirk and Miramanee.

After Chi closed, Don and I were invited to an afterparty by a Jordanian guy in a kilt. We thanked him politely and lost him. A few minutes later, he had found us and was urging us to come to his afterparty. Actually, it seemed like a good idea, because it meant sharing a ride with several other people to our own neighborhood, thus saving a bit of cab fare. The "afterparty" turned out to be four or five friends cleaning off their makeup and hitting the hay, all the while asking each other in Arabic who the Americans were. Randomness.

A few days later, we went to Mahmovies! at Jam Jar, for a free screening of I Am Cuba.

Here is curator Mahmoud Kaabour, director of Being Osama, which Don and I caught a few years ago at Dubai's film festival, introducing the event.

I read later that around 300 people attended.

The movie was excellent but sort of long; Don fell asleep. He'd had a long day.

Then, a few days later, Don and I grabbed one friend and went to Abu Dhabi to meet another friend, to skate on a big sundial at the corniche. I don't know why I didn't get pictures of the friends (or the skating), but I got some pictures of signs.

"The Original Americana Chicken Tikka"

If you need liquid or gaseous spare parts, you'll have to look elsewhere.

* Pfft* I was all excited when I thought I saw an Andorian, but it was just a dum' ol' Smurf.

Colored contact lenses to look more like Star Trek characters is hard core.

Solid Spare Parts looks as much like an alien planet as the Halloweird party, especially with the Arabic script. If only the foreground sedan were a hovercraft!

> "attention to detail"

Regarding this, are these before photos? Meaning before Don with the Mohawk hair cut?
