I just came from Singapore. This was the view from my hotel room.

I had wanted to go to the Peranakan Museum.

"In memory of the cat that adopted this building and became its mascot..."

I came for the Ramayana Revisited exhibit. Shadow puppets like these from Kerala, and other ancient and contemporary items from India and abroad.

These are Cambodian.

This is Thai.

Shadow puppets are beautiful.

Ravana, not so much.

Kumbhakarna devouring the monkey army.

Looking for one church, we (my colleague and I) found another. "One Message Received."

Here's what we were looking for: The Armenian Church, ca. 1836. The oldest church in Singapore!

It has a pretty, peaceful little cemetery on its beautiful grounds.

Elegant stone carving in Armenian.

Nah, not this time, though I usually end up down there. (We stay not far from there; used to stay even closer.) You can follow the tag back to see one or two pictures from the bay, taken a few years ago.

Did you visit the stamp museum there?
Last time I was there, a couple of months ago, I did. Didn't have a camera on me. The exhibit on was about WWII occupation, and the Year of the Tiger. It was great. I wanted to go again this time, but ran short on time. I assume you went?

Yes of course I had visited it. When we went the main exhibit was herbs and spices. And a bunch of other things one of which was production of a stamp. Very nice and cute, and was able to buy a few Vario sheets there and very reasonable prices. Wish I had bought more, not available with our Indian dealers now.

It quite fascinated me to know their first stamps where Indian:-) Queen Victoria ie.

I like the boat looking crosssection that joins the three towers, but it makes me wonder about how long it will withstand swaying...

NATO takes over command of military operations in Libya

NATO is taking over command of military operations in Libya from coalition forces, world media reported Sunday.

The UN Security Council imposed the no-fly zone over Libya on March 17, along with ordering "all necessary measures" to protect civilians from Muammar Gaddafi's attacks on rebel-held towns.

The 28 NATO ambassadors met on Sunday to decide on further military plans in Libya.

The United States transfers command for a no-fly zone over Libya to NATO, while coalition forces will continue to protect civilian population from attacks by Gaddafi forces.

The military operation in Libya, codenamed Odyssey Dawn, has been conducted so far jointly by 13 states, including the United States, Britain and France.

NATO members decided on Thursday to assume responsibility for the enforcement of a no-fly zone in Libya, but could not agree on taking full command of all military operations in the country.

Meanwhile, leaders of the 27 European Union states on Thursday issued a statement saying the EU stood ready to assist in building a new Libya "in cooperation with the United Nations, the Arab League, the African Union and others."
