Yesterday was Day 1 of my nine day leave.
Kayaking in the Abu Dhabi mangroves
Am I the only person in the world who had never tried kayaking? I loved it, it was so pleasant an activity, physically fun and just what I needed. I went with three other roller derby girls; sometimes we tried paddling as if we were skating, blocking each other, knocking each other, get in front, don't let her pass! Pack up! And sometimes we drifted off on our own, and paddling goes better when you aren't right up next to each other and talking a mile a minute (which is something we also do when we skate; we have to socialize a lot outside of skating, because we always have lots of gossip and stories and catching up). It's hot in this part of the world, but on the sea it was cool, with strong winds ~ our "unlucky day," said our guide, but we were grateful for the wind. Not a lot of wildlife to be seen; just a few herons and some crabs. There should be flamingos, but jet-skiers and power boats ignore the government posted signs to stay away from the mangroves, scaring off the nature. But it was pretty out there.
Kayaks after returning to shore; mangroves yonder.
My friend found this dead fish. It had Donkey teeth. And it stank.
