We visited Ryan's place of employment!

Have you ever wondered where servers live? Buildings like this...

Hundreds of servers, room after room, floor after floor.

These pictures really don't convey how extensive the place is.

strange that they look like regular computer towers. i thought they would be black horizontal "racks" *confused*

was it really cold in there?

Hmm.. like this?

It was freezing! Lots of a/c's, big big fans, ducts... (It is their job to freeze you!)

A friend once showed me a server room. Besides the towers and racks, there was a balsa wood glider, and a sqoosh penguin. Before we left, he said there was one last thing to show me. He turned off the lights and we stood by the doors watching all the LEDs blink on and off. Good times.

your journal is kind of like mister roger's neighborhood, but without the puppets.

where are the puppets?

On my friends list? (But 'puppets' is kind of a negative term. I call them my 'loyal retainers.')

hee!

my sister had a disloyal retainer. she stood open-mouthed over the pond near our house and it fell clean out of her maw right into the water, and we didn't find it until thaw. maw, thaw.

i will not be your puppet. but i will be your private dancer. dancer for money.

Re: hee!

I love the word "maw."

I don't have any money, but I have my collection of mismatched socks.

No? How about an assortment of clumpy nail polishes? A stack of old gift catalogs? Some blown fuses and broken power adapters? My hairbrush?

Crap, I'm just realizing... if I ever had to liquidate, I'd be in trouble.

me too. all i have is scratched up CDs.

we-he-hell, i take shiny things. marbles, spoons, whatnots and whoosits.

did you ever try to put nail polish remover in with gooed up nail polish and shake it up and think it was going to work beautifully until it - well - didn't? i like painting mix CDs with nail polish but i think i go overboard and i'm not sure how it holds up in the long run or how good it is for the media. i also like painting rocks for in potted plants. or on paper, you know. i never throw nail polish away.

That first pic is very "X-Files". I'm assuming that's a streetlight on the left, and not an U.F.O.. And what's that brown mass underneath it?
