I could not wear a hat made out of meat! Icky!

You're Buddhist, aren't you? Are you vegetarian?

Actually, nope, I'm not Buddhist... although I've studied Buddhism quite a bit. I guess I would be considered "eclectic" when it comes to religious / spiritual beliefs. And nope, I'm not vegetarian. I tried before, but I just didn't have the will power to do it. Texas BBQ's are just too tempting!

Sorry to assume like that! Guess I made that assumption from your Buddhist Quote-for-the-Day. Then a further leap with the assumption that you must therefore be vegetarian. ;-)

I'm not vegetarian either; I eat sushi, and the occasional tuna pizza or sandwich. But no cows, chickens, or pigs on my plate. And maybe being from Texas influenced that -- you're always driving past ranches of nursing calfs. (Calves?)

The truth is, my reasons for semi-vegetarianism are as abstract as my spirituality. It has something to do with loving animals, maybe something to do with mad cow, but I'm not armed with an arsenal of arguments not to eat meat. For that reason, will power doesn't come into it. If someone prepares a beef dish especially for me (as my Korean friends invariably do on the rare occasions I get to see them), declining it doesn't enter my mind.

Btw, I'm not Buddhist, either. =)

A lot of people have also thought that I'm a vegetarian because I'm big on animal rights. Really, if I think about it, I should be vegetarian. The harming of any creature is wrong (I rarely even squash bugs... I usually just pick them up and put them outside). But I do try to show my appreciation for what I'm eating when I do eat meat. Really, the only meats I eat in mass quantities are turkey and chicken. I try to stay away from cow except when we have BBQ and since Amy doesn't like fish, we really don't eat much of that even though I love seafood! I suppose that as long as I personally avoid hunting and harming other living creatures, and show respect and appreciation for the meat I do eat (that other people have killed), I'll be ok. Then again, I might just be labeled as a hypocrite by some!

Re: meathats

I take it, by your reaction, you saw those other photos.

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
