"DUBAI: Dubai International Airport will be closed for at least eight hours on Monday after a Biman Bangladesh Airlines aircraft was involved in an accident while trying to take off, officials said. All 236 passengers, including crew, are safe, and were immediately evacuated from the aircraft. Fourteen passengers sustained minor injuries."
Okay, but what does that have to do with me? ME?
Don and I packed our bags this morning and drove to Dubai airport, planning to be in Dublin by early afternoon so we could see KRISTIN HERSH at Temple Bar Music Center. Ran through the curiously passenger-free security lines, pushed our way to the check-in counter, and were told, "We're closing the airport." We looked around and noticed the stunned faces on the zombies all around us. The public address system asked "all passengers to proceed to Safa Restaurant for refreshments."
We'd been looking forward to that concert for weeks! We've been listening to her amazing new album Learn to Sing Like a Star pretty much constantly, planning the trip and all the details. We know that fans are meeting for a pint at Porterhouse before the show. I predicted this morning on the way to the airport that she would open with "In Shock."
Here's a picture I took over a year ago. That's way too long. By tonight I was supposed to be hearing Kristin
Edit: From Flightglobal.com: "The A310 – one of four operated by the airline, according to Flight’s ACAS database – was operating a service to Dhaka. Some reports suggest the aircraft suffered a tyre burst and/or nose-gear collapse during its take-off roll. Pictures of the accident show that the aircraft appears to have come to rest at the far end of Runway 12L with its nose gear collapsed."
I just called the hostel and canceled our booking. Cry!
