Himalayas and the K2 [Jul. 14th, 2007|01:28 pm]

Flying over the Himalayas. That big one is K2, the planet's second-highest mountain.

These are tiny in comparison.

A town. Crazy.

We were flying at 37,000 feet, and K2 is about 28,000 feet.

Looking right down over it. Hi, K2!

Himalayas. Crazy.

Are those from the cockpit? I never find windows that clean and scratchfree on aircraft.

Yup, you have to be in the cockpit to see views like this!

I'm jealous of the pilots, who get to see that stuff every day! Usually I'm too busy to get up to the front!

I went to boarding school in Darjeeling, this totally reminds me of that part of my life, good memories. =]

Gorgeous photos, but nothing can compare with that tattoo of yours! ;) :P

Glad to hear that you had fun in Nagoya. We were there for my wife's sister's wedding last April, but the entire time was taken with family-related stuff, so didn't have a chance to play, as it were.

It's true, a blonde in a thong trumps natural wonders every time! =P

I just wish I could have gotten over to the Nagoya Basho, which was going on at the time. I did catch a bit of it on TV.

Those are without doubt, and no disrespect to you dubaiwalla, THE BEST photos I've seen posted by a friend all year!!! WOW! Would you be kind enough to send me the originals if they are bigger in size?? Absolutely fascinating and I totally envy you. :) The only time we flew over/near the Himalayas was to and from China, but it was night-time both times! And obviously I don't have access to the cockpit.

Lucky you, and thanks again for sharing Susan!

Thank you for the huge compliment! And I think dubaiwalla and I could use a little healthy competition, lest we rest on our laurels.

I'll fix some bigger versions later and post them as a reply to your comment. =)

None taken. The first two pictures, in particular, look like they've been lifted straight out of a tourist brochure. I'm nowhere near that good with a camera.

I have such a backlog. I think you can relate.

Those are amazing, I can almost reach out and scratch that itch on my back;D When I first started reading your journal, I came across the bit where you said you changed jobs every three or four years, but really, how can you give up this???
