Year of the Rat! [Feb. 10th, 2008|09:28 am]

I just counted, and NOT counting the USA, China was my 35th country to spend more than 24 hours in!

I went to Shanghai on February 7. China!

It was the first day of the Chinese New Year.

Everything was in Chinese.

The next day, the streets were empty. That's my friend, who had to hear me exclaim, "I'm in China!" all day.

I laughed at this little girl tackling the little boy. The father (of just one of them?) laughed at me taking the picture.

The ________ Chinese food did not appeal to me (sorry, can't think of a diplomatic adjective), so I had Japanese at this place. Notice the same wood block print appears on a pair of these stamps.

The non-Mao sides of the moneys.

Pretty hotel room. It had a huge TV (I got to watch NHK) and the bath was great.

I envy you all the places that you get to see. It's really great to see pictures of all of the places you go and this set is one of my favorite so far.
I'd be all "I'm in China!" too

Thanks!! I was struggling, with no people and very little scenery. The coolest scenery was after sundown, when fireworks just started going off en masse in every direction. I tried to capture it on video but the individual fireworks were non-special, and it was hard to show how many of them there were. I was too cold to venture farther than the purlieus of my hotel. If I go back in spring or summer, I hope to find something nicer to look at.
