Whoa! Is that the new Garhoud? Taken from the Emirates training building?
I was thinking myself that's what it must be. The approach with the curve in the road and the flyover is reasonably distinctive: it's clearly not the Maktoum bridge or the floating bridge (whatever it's called). The approach doesn't look like it would be to the Ras al Khor / Business Bay crossing (to say nothing of the lack of miniature Eiffel Towers
Which doesn't leave much else.Edited at 2008-04-01 11:07 pm (UTC)
All the (temporary yellow) signs pointing to the floating bridge referred to it as just that, back when I was in Dubai in December/January.
It took me a few seconds to be sure this wasn't the Business Bay Crossing, especially since the old bridge isn't visible. (Strangely, I could tell instantly this was taken from the Deira side of the creek, well before I was certain about the location.) The curved overpass leading to the bridge was one clue, and the stepped rows of plants at the bottom left corner were another. The greenery on the right also fit in with the expected position of the Creek Golf and Yacht Club.
But what really did it for me was the angle the picture was taken from. It's distinctly higher than the aforementioned overpass, meaning it would have to be taken from a building, not some other bridge. And since chu_hi
has mentioned where she's been lately, and the building in question is very memorable, things snapped into place.
Are you thinking of the old (aircraft shaped) building? It's empty now! I hope it has a future. I was trying to take pictures of it yesterday, but I seemed to have wrecked the camera; it only wants to take video now. :\
Wow, they really look Eiffely in that picture. =) New Garhoud has slightly curved street lamps which antivert
describes as "stabby."
I love the Floating Bridge. I think it might be temporary... if they take it away, I'll be sad.
Indeed! Taken from the NEW Emirates training building. =)
I think I saw them building that, didn't realize it would be ready for use so quickly. Then again, this is Dubai we're talking about.
Yup! The first time I had to go to the new Building was August 1 - not everybody was moved in, but it was complete and open for business.
I think it should be called Bob. It looks like a Bob.
