Picture #2 is über-cute! I am mesmerized by the print (with the four mask-like faces) between the two shelves. It looks vaguely Indonesian, but not really (and the monograph in the corner looks much more Japanese)... where's it from? (Deleted comment)

I... don't understand? (Deleted comment)
Ah, sorry. I thought that was directed at me.
*giggle* I saw I had NINE comments about our bed, and thought, who knew people were so interested in our bed? But five of the comments are you two! I don't mind... I love it when people have conversations in my comments. =)
It's actually a scarf that we had framed. The creature is a Daruma, and it's Japanese. They're usually made of wood (maybe they can be ceramic, too?) and come with hollow, empty eyes. You get one when you have a goal or some kind of personal challenge, and you color in one eye and put it up on display in your house. When you reach your goal, you get to color in the other eye.
They're always sort of egg shaped, always have the crazy eyebrows and 'stache, and always have those strips on their bellies. Sometimes they have the Chinese character for "good fortune" on their bellies, too.
And yeah, I love that particular picture of Tortoise!
I looked at it and said to myself 'that looks like a Darumma doll'. I'm stunned I was right.
stunned
I'm not surprised! You're right a lot!
Oh, and you asked where it's from ~ specifically, it's from the Tokyu Hands department store in Sannomiya, Kobe. It cost around a thousand yen. (Deleted comment)
Woo! Haha, depending whom you ask, we're either the best or the worst. I think we're pretty much the best. =) I look like a different person in uniform, ha! They're changing our hat a little. http://archive.gulfnews.com/articles/08/06/17/10221569.htmlOur hat now has an embroidered logo on the front. The new one will have, like, a button on the side, with a ribbom. I don't know why they would change it! Everybody loves it the way it is!
Bad Feng Shui!! My friend David (Buddhist monk, makesa living on Feng Shui) would enter the room, see the bed against the wall then convulsively clap his hands to gert teh bad energy out.
But hell, I sleep under a beam now so what the fudge do I know? Stupid small rooms that don't accomodate cool beds!
and that is just one cool bed!
Thanks! It's stronger than hell... we broke our last one.
What can I say... Don likes sleeping next to the wall!
I heard having the foot of the bed face the door was bad Feng Shui, so we had the bed head against that wall with the gold picture frames on it - when we had a smaller bed. The larger bed didn't fit that way, so it was to the right of the door. And Don was on the wall.
The room is pretty small, but it feels HUGE now. You can't tell, but there's a lot of space at the foot of the bed, and that space wasn't getting used before. I wanna put a big shaggy rug there.
Sorry, I just woke up, and I'm going on and on about my bedroom!
Your room is gorgeous. I want a room like that. :)
Thank you! The walls are concrete, and it didn't come with a closet or curtain rods or anything. Every time we change something or hang something, Don has to get out the drill and masonry bits ~ it's a lot of physical toil.
Heh.
I take it you shun the hooks with the four (or three) metal pins that you can just hammer into the wall?
My memories of growing up in S'pore and Al Ain are filled with those things.
Now that's a bed! What kind of wood did you say it was made of?
I don't know... the really heavy kind! | |
