Earthquake? [Sep. 10th, 2008|03:06 pm]

Either somebody just shook our apartment around, or that was an earthquake.

EDIT:

A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck southern Iran near Bandar Abbas, site of a major Iranian oil refinery, the US Geological Service said.

The quake hit at 1100 GMT about 53 km west-southwest of Bandar Abbas at a depth of 55 km, the US agency said.

There were no immediate reports on damage, but residents in the United Arab Emirates, across the Gulf from Iran, reported feeling a slight tremor.

Or the LHC just destroyed the Earth.

Hmm. Nope. Don't think that was it.

I think 20 seconds, at least. I realized I was shaking, paused and kept still, felt I was still shaking, then noticed the fish tank water. Then I asked Don if he could feel it, and he paused, then I said to look at the fish tank, and we sat there wobbling, going "This is an earthquake." "Really?" "Yes." And then it stopped. So it was for a while.

I felt 3 earthquakes in Japan (Don has felt more, being from California), and those were all "WHOA, IT'S AN EARTHQUAKE!" earthquakes. This was the first time I had to check whether it was just me.

I just twittered the USGS link at you, for "did you feel it?"

I woke up, saw it in my mail (yes, I get email updates), and thought, "6.1, that's not bad." Then I remembered, "Oh, southern Iran, where things are built of mud?" and remembered Bam, and checked -- sure enough, it's bad.

Hopefully you were mixing a martini at the time. 6.1- shaken martinis are the best, I hear.

Craziness! I'm assuming you and the family (Don and the cats) are a-okay?

:)

I am glad to see you two are ok.
Hey-
Been wondering how you are...it's been too long since we've talked. I miss you! I have moved back to Denton and gotten into the TWU OT program.. decided the finance industry was missing the bag of chips. I know I have missed you guys in town a few times now... Call me or write me next time you get a chance or when you come in- I have a house now (and am doing school full time instead of that crazy work schedule I was on) and could easily put you up if you are ever out and need a place to crash! Also give Don a big squeeze for me. Love you guys!
