Gulf News Reader Comments [Sep. 15th, 2009|04:19 am]
susan smitten

Just a quick post to laugh at with at the people I share my city (and my metro) with. These are reader comments posted less than 2 weeks before the opening of the Metro, in response to the article titled, "Eating, drinking or smoking on Metro prohibited." Is it just me, or are these funny?

(Edited only to remove the less interesting bits.)

"Food should be allowed while bicycles too, in the last compartment only. Food is a basic need for any at any time. They should even have a buffet to serve light meals."
Sarath, Sharjah,U.A.E.
(Sarath is hungry.)

"I think it would be a very good idea if Dubai metro install smoking cabins. In that way they will avoid illegal smoking!"
Stine Gram Dubai,UAE
(Stine is a smoker.)

"I was just wondering if at all the metro have wash rooms inside???? otherwise its going to be a real surprise for many. On road we at least have the fuel stations."
Deepak, Dubai,UAE
(Deepak needs to go. Now.)

"I would like the RTA to let infants be fed milk in the bottle in case they are hungry or cry but not feed with the bowl as again the food is bound to fall down. Thanks"
Dora, Dubai,UAE
(Why do I imagine an infant eating from a bowl on the floor, like my kitties?)

"I appreciate the initiative RTA has taken and applaud the strict rules and regulations stated. However, stopping commuters from drinking and eating on the Metro is against the very purpose of having a metro...."
Hurez Hussain
(Hurez is confused about the very purpose of having a Metro.)

"Yes obviously high intensity aromatic foods should probably be prohibited to consume, that's just common sense. Children should obviously be fed, and water should be allowed for everyone travelling. What about poor level of personal hygiene, because i can safely say this will ruin everybody's journey, what about over-used extreme after-shaves and perfumes that are quite ghastly? both of which violate the senses, will there be some way of measuring this? will we have security guards who will monitor this? What about food shopping, some fish and other foods can be quite potent, is there a ruling here? will you be refused travel?"
From A Reader, Dubai,UAE
(Didn't edit that one. Didn't have to.)

"While I was in Dubai, I had to drive to certain locations to pack food or for grocery. Does it mean that one cannot use metro to transport items bought at grocery or food courts? Can't imagine trolleys and trolleys of grocery from Mall of the Emirates being transported in Metro. Will it be banned?"
Manish, Doha,Qatar
(I would love to see somebody try this.)

"Even you have to ban them use of chewing gum. It will cause problem. If anybody stick the chewing gum between doors it will get stuck."
Abdul Rajak, Abu Dhabi,UAE
(No... it won't?)

"Chewing Pan should also be banned at the stations and in trains."
Gopimohan Krishnan Nair, DUBAI,UAE
(Maybe, but would that even be an issue? Isn't it technically not allowed anyway?)

"It is the duty and responsiblity of every passenger travelling in metro trains that the rules should be strictly followed by us and make the journey full of excitment and joyful..GET SET GO..."
Emran Naeem Shaikh, Dubai,UAE
(Emran is as excited as I am!)

I figure they've already put themselves in the public domain by writing to the newspaper. But it's your journal, and thus your call.

I went to MoE yesterday. There were no mall guards preventing anyone from taking trolleys out towards the metro, only a sign advising against the same. I wonder what the police would say if you got your own trolley.

Oh, and while the 3D film was mostly propaganda, the end wasn't too shabby. Except for how dominoes kept falling up to become buildings.

I liked the dominoes falling up. =D
