Body Words

Going through old books to try to give away and sell whatever isn't rare or treasured, I found "Webster's Encyclopedia of Dictionaries" in the bottom of a box at my parents' house. I decided it didn't belong in the bottom of a box, and since it's too huge to drag to Dubai, I've campaigned for its prominent display in the front room. It was one of my favorite books when I was a teenager; I guess it still is. It was printed in 1978, which makes the atlas interesting.

Here are some amazing words from the medical dictionary:

Ageusia, lack of sense of taste
Mephitic, noxious or foul
Alvine, pertaining to the belly
Balbuties, stammering
Bex, cough
Dragee, large sugar coated pill
Alienist, psychiatrist
Cainotophobia, extreme fear of anything new
Sitophobia, extreme dislike of food

I wanted to make this a long list, but I think I'm going to make a sandwich instead. We'll see if I continue it later.
