Stuff you can get in Sannomiya [Feb. 1st, 2004|09:58 pm]

Today Don and I supped with my teacher, Masa, his wife Sachiko, and his friend Nozomi. It was great; we stuffed ourselves with Sachiko-made okonomiyaki. Last night Don and I had 中華料理/Chinese food in Osaka with Masae, and then we sang. So many people who should have been photographed. Yesterday was Motoko's last day at the Company.. I'm really going to miss her gorgeous scowling face around there. Why is it that awesome new staff always quit after six months?

What I was getting at is: Don and I were in Sannomiya a few days ago and I took a ton of pictures of the sort-of everyday things I always see (but never think about). Intersections, restaurant store fronts, arches over streets. Sannomiya isn't that interesting compared with Osaka, so kick me in the nuts for forgetting my camera last night.

Mobile phones.. could I have one of each?

Twisty type.

This one comes with a 16 MB memory stick and can play music files
(ATRAC3 format) up to 30 minutes or 132Kbps bitrate. It can also
play MPEG-4 video, up to 15 minutes. But what is this dice game?

Casio Exilims in "Gauguin Red" and "Gogh Yellow."

These are little video cameras that use SD cards.
Don says they're an older model.

This one has a 10x optical zoom and uses DIVX (Mpeg 4) compression.

A "real" camcorder, the kind that uses tapes, for just about $600.

The coolest part is that it's less than 4 inches (10cm) deep.

Sweet icon! It's so shiny it's burning my retinas. I guess you get to learn about all the new phones there before they hit the stores.

I wonder why they don't sell the colorful ones in the USA? I think people would buy them! Don't you?

I don't want to torture anybody, color anybody green. It's harder for me; five minutes and I want to buy, buy, buy the whole world!

I can hear Don drifting...

Re:

Polyphonic? Does that mean it has more than one sound? Don's has 40 voices. Mine only has 4; it's a 3-year-old model. So no camera, but it has a really good speakerphone.

The dice game

Hey Chu_hi this is Cliff (yeah football at Toshimitsu's) checking out your livejournal.

The dice game on that keitai is probably IX, pronounced "sai". Or is it spelled Sai? I forget. You can get it for the playstation 1 if you really want it.

See ya.

Ooooo! 10x optical zoom.

Just not enough optical zoom in the world. Mebbe I should get a telescope mount for my camera. :)

OOooO! Super-thin screen TV. Was it LCD or Plasma? I have an aversion to plasma because:
A) burn in
B) Heat generation
C) error diffusion dithering due to poor color selection

LCD drawbacks are:
A) Cost
B) blur during high-speed action

Re:

That one was plasma. I love LCD! It's cheap, light, and easy on the eyes. Don hates that blur aspect, but I don't mind it at all.

Did you say cost was a drawback to LCD?? Here, the plasma TVs are WAY more expensive!

Re:

Well, ok, over about 120cm, LCD price skyrockets. I thought. Maybe.
